Dear Woodland Park Families,

My name is Dr. Larry Thompson and I am thrilled to be joining the Woodland Park community as your new principal!  I am so looking forward to getting to know each of you and your children.

As I am sure that you must be very curious about my background and experience, I thought I would take this opportunity to share a little information about myself.  For the past 14 years, I have worked in the White County School District.  I began as a Resource teacher at White High School, and then moved to Bon De Croft Elementary as their principal.  I served as a principal for six years before becoming principal of Cassville Elementary where I served for two years. On a personal note I am married to Martha Thompson, who teaches at Woodland Park, and I have three sons, William, Andrew and Elan and one grandson, Hayden Thompson.

As you get to know me, you will see that I have very high expectations for myself and for Woodland Park Elementary. Having been the principal of two schools, I understand the commitment that it takes for all students to reach their highest potential.  I believe that every student can and will succeed if provided the right supports and opportunities to be challenged.  I see it as my responsibility as the principal to oversee this process, guiding the staff and allocating the resources and supports to make it happen.

Woodland Park has developed a reputation for academic excellence; it is a place where exceptional teaching and learning is the norm.  I am truly honored to have been selected as your new principal!  I look forward to seeing you all bright and early on registration day, August 2, 2017.

Greetings Woodland Park Families,

My name is Valarie Butcher, and I am pleased to join the Woodland Park family as the new assistant principal. I look forward to getting to know the students and families that make Woodland Park such a special place to be.

I have been a classroom teacher for fifteen years at White County Middle School.  Being a classroom teacher has been a rewarding experience, and it has given me insights into the obstacles that often lie in the way of student success.  I truly understand the importance to later years of education of establishing a strong educational foundation during the critical early years.  I am also the parent of three amazing boys, Jackson, Greg, and Isaac.  As a parent, I recognize that parents are a child’s first teacher; therefore, it is essential that schools and families work together to ensure that children receive the support necessary to achieve academic success.                                                                                                                                                                  Woodland Park has a long tradition of pursuing academic excellence for all students.  I am honored to join that tradition and continue the focus of working together - families, students, faculty, administration, and staff – to ensure that exceptional teaching and learning remain the norm for all students.  Because communication is an essential part of working together, my door is always open, and I welcome your ideas.   Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help Woodland Park continue the pursuit of excellence.  I look to seeing you for student registration on August 2, 2017, and throughout the year!
